Frequently Asked Questions
Q: How can I transfer my animals to the core facility protocol?
A: An advance notice of atleast 1 week is required before you transfer your animals. The animals will also need 1 week to acclimatize. Hence, please plan your experiment schedules accordingly. For transfer related matters, kindly email Ms. Ang Beeting and Dr. Wong. The NMPC protocol number to be quoted for such requests is "R22-0075: Neuroscience Phenotyping Core".
Q: How can I book the behaviour rooms?
A: The behaviour rooms can be booked through the Facility Booking System. NUS staff can request for access by emailing NMPC. Unfortunately, we are unable to provide access to students, and hence their booking must be made by a staff member in their respective laboratory. The purpose of booking and any help required for setup of equipment or software must be indicated while making the bookings.
Q: Can I change the lighting in the behaviour rooms?
A: There is a light dimmer functionality in all the behaviour rooms that allows users to manually adjust the lux between 4 to 470 lux. By default, the behaviour rooms are not on a light cycle. If you need to reverse the light cycle or are planning to house the animals overnight in the room, please email NMPC at least 1 day in advance.
Q: Are there dedicated rooms for Rat and Mouse work?
A: Behaviour Room 1 is dedicated for Rat work and Rooms 4,5,6 are assigned for Mouse work. These are indicated by "R" and "M" respectively on the booking system. Researchers should keep this in mind while booking the rooms to ensure as little crossover as possible.
Q: I do not have card access to the behaviour rooms. Whom should I contact?
A: The pre-requisite to receiving card access to the behaviour rooms is that your name should be on an approved IACUC protocol. The behavioural procedure that you plan to carry out must be listed on that protocol. If you fulfil these requirements, please email NMPC with your details and the equipment you wish to use. Kindly allow us 2 working days to process your request.
If you do not have access to the vivarium itself, please contact Ms. Ang Beeting. Please note that unauthorized entry is strictly prohibited in the vivarium and non-compliance will be reported to CM/IACUC.
