NUS Safety and Health Awards Ceremony 2017
The NUS Safety & Health Award (NUSSHA) ceremony 2017 is to celebrate the contributions, efforts of Departments, Research Institutes, Research Centers, Halls of Residence and Offices in marking NUS a safer and healthier place to study and work in This year NUSSHA theme was “Celebrating People, Partnerships and Progress”. Organized by office of Safety, Health and Environment (OSHE), the award ceremony was held at the University Cultural Centre on the 20th April 2017. The occasion was presided over by the Guest of Honor Prof. Tan Chorh Chuan, NUS President. Senior advisor to the President, NUS, Professor Barry Halliwell, Deputy President (Administration), Mr. Don Yeo Yong Kiang. Vice President (Campus Infrastructure) Professor Yong Kwet Yew, Vice President (Human Resource) Ms Aileen Tan, Vice President (Research & Technology) Professor Philip Li Fan Liu. The audience included Deans, Directors, Heads of Departments, Safety committee members and representatives of various Departments, Institutes, Offices and Halls of Residence. This year 48 Departments/RIRCs/Halls of residence/Offices took part in the NUSSHA challenge and were deservedly rewarded for their efforts. Departments were assessed based on their safety and health management systems and their safety and health performance over the reviewing period of 2 Jan 2016 to 31 Dec 2017. Forty Departments/IRIRC/Offices/Halls of Residence won the commitment awards, six Departments won the commendation awards and two won the excellence awards. For details of the categories and awards, please visit the NUSSHA webpage. The award ceremony begun with a musical piece named Joseph Haydn’s String Quartet in B-flat major, Op. 64 No 3. Movement 1. Vivace Assai performed by the students from Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music. Mr Saravanan s/o Gunaratnam, Head (Safety & Health Management Division) welcomed all the participants and delivered the opening speech followed by the award ceremony. Audience were treated to photo montages for the various category of the award recipient before the award recipients were invited on stage to receive the award from the Guests of Honour and VIPs The commitment awards were presented jointly by Vice President (Campus infrastructure), Prof Yong Kwet Yew and Deputy President (Administration) Mr Don Yeo Yong Kiang. The commendation awards were presented by Senior Advisor to the President, NUS, Prof Barry Halliwell. The Excellent awards were presented to the award winners by NUS President, Prof Tan Chorh Chuan.
