Objectives
This course is designed to equip workplace officers and trainers with the necessary knowledge and skills to design heat mitigation programmes and implement strategies to maxmise work productivity/performance, health and safety of heat-exposed personnel under their charge. This course can potentially be adopted as a pre-requisite for officers and trainers who are responsible for the prescription and supervision of workers/athletes involved in physical activities under heat-exposed conditions. The topics to be covered include:
1. Fundamentals of thermal physiology
2. Principles of training periodisation
3. Physical employment standards
4. Heat management strategies
5. Evidence-based risk factors for exertional heat stroke
6. Case studies
Upon completion of the course, participants will be able to:
1. Describe and identify risk factors for exertional heat stroke
2. Prescribe heat management and training programs for heat-exposed personnel/workers based on current scientific evidence
3. Design and cutomize heat mitigation strategies based on individual occupational/sporting needs
