Objectives

1.Provide students with basic skills in conducting research on topics related to Chinese art and visual culture, which include technical and formal analysis as well as contextual interpretation2.Enable students to look at and discuss Chinese painting and calligraphy in different historical contexts through formal, stylistic and iconographic analysis, and social and political interpretation3.Encourage students to contextualize the different environments in which art is produced and received, artists’ intentions, the reception of images and critical texts that produce and shape the discourse of Chinese ink painting
