There are anecdotal reports that music, especially community singing, is associated with enhanced health and wellbeing, mental alertness and a decreased risk of developing dementia. If this is confirmed and its mechanism established, lessons of great value to the ageing society might be learned. This fund will support a PhD candidate to conduct research and analysis in the area of music and dementia for a period of 4 years.
