Dr Nir Avieli joined ARI as a Post Doctoral Fellow. He completed his MA and PhD (both in Anthropology) at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. He has been a Lecturer at Ben Gurion University in Israel since 2005 and also Head of MA program in Anthropology from 2007. Dr Avieli's main interests include contemporary Vietnamese culture, the anthropology of food and the anthropology of tourism.

Brief Write-Up on Proposed Work:
He is preparing his PhD dissertation, titled: "Rice Talks: a Culinary Ethnography of Identity and Change in Hoi An, Central Vietnam" for publication.
He is also working on the theme of food and gender, and preparing a project on the globalization of the Vietnamese cuisine in its various guises.
During his stay at ARI, he coordinated the Vietnam-Cambodia-Laos study group.
