Objectives
This course builds and exposes students to the mathematical foundational concepts that are necessary in a variety of engineering disciplines. The topics include the following: Ordinary differential equations. Laplace transform. Matrix algebra. Vector Space. Eigenvalues and Eigenvectors. Determinants and Inverses. Solution of linear equations. Diagonalisation. Functions of Matrices. Matrix exponential. Matrix differential equations.
Who Should Attend
All engineers. This mathematics course is an essential course to train students in proficiency in mathematical analysis of many complex engineering problems, which are encountered in subsequent courses.
Entry Requirements
Engineering-related polytechnic diploma or equivalent
Class Schedule
S1: Wednesdays (6pm to 9.30pm)
S2: Thursdays (6pm to 9.30pm)
Lesson Delivery
a. Lecture: 2.5 hrs
b. Tutorial: 1 hr
c. Projects/Assignments: 3 hrs
d. Others & Preparatory Work: 3.5 hrs
