Objectives

At the end of the course, students are expected to:1. Conduct and report the findings of a mental health assessment2. Differentiate between antidepressants, antipsychotics, mood stabilizers, and anxiolytics3. Recognise the common side effects of each class of medication4. Apply LEAP, a strategy designed to communicate with persons with serious mental disorders who lack insight into their illness and the need for medication 5. Utilize techniques of cognitive behavioral therapy with clients who struggle with depression and anxiety (e.g., identify and break negative thought patterns) 6. Conduct psycho-education with clients on stress management 7. Recognize and address the challenges that families encounter caring for a loved one with mental illness
