Objectives
To explore the evolving concept of family through interdisciplinary lenses—drawing from history, anthropology, sociology, and demography. This course aims to critically examine how family structures and household dynamics intersect with broader economic, political, and cultural transformations across time. Students will analyze variations in family life by social class and race/ethnicity, investigate changing norms around relationships, childbearing, and childrearing, and apply theoretical frameworks to real-world case studies of family change and diversity.
