This module aims to enable beginners in Vietnamese to acquire basic communicative skills. By developing the four skills of speaking, listening, reading and writing, it aimes to provide students with ample opportunities to practice and achieve communicative competence in simple everyday situations and personal interaction. By the end of this course, students should be able to (1) identify the 6 different tones and the writing system of the Vietnamese language; (2) acquire a sound knowledge of the grammatical structures and how to use them appropriately for different communicative situations; (3) communicate in simple daily situations; and (4) acquire a general understanding of the cultures of Vietnam, the socio-linguistic aspects of the language and to acquire cross-cultural communication skills.
