Objectives

  • Be able to understand the operating principles and characteristics of electric drives based on AC Induction motor, DC and Brush Less DC motor, Switched Reluctance Motor (SRM) and Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor(PMSM).;
  • Be able design and implement advanced control methods like Vector Control and Direct Toque Control for AC drives.;
  • Be able to understand and predict both steady-state as well as dynamic performance of various types of electric drives, through mathematical analysis as well as computer simulation.;
  • Be able to appreciate the importance of using Adjustable Speed Drives for improving energy efficiency in various industrial applications.;
  • Be able to appreciate the various new developments and challenges in the field of Electric Drives.
