Objectives

This course introduces the fundamental concepts of problem-solving by computing and programming using an imperative programming language. Topics covered include basic problem formulation and problem-solving approaches, program development, coding, testing and debugging, and fundamental programming constructs (variables, types, expressions, assignments, functions, control structures, etc.). At the end of the course, participants will be able to:
  • Understand and write code using fundamental programming constructs, such as variables, expressions, branch and loop and functions
  • Understand how function abstraction can be used in programming
  • Understand how data abstraction can be used with tuples
  • Apply programming methodology to solve problems with code
