Objectives
This course introduces students to key social theories that underpin anthropological analysis, focusing on concepts such as agency, structure, subjectivity, power, culture, and social change. Students will examine each theoretical perspective in terms of its analytical value, historical context, and contribution to ongoing scholarly debates. The course provides foundational models used by anthropologists to explain human diversity, cultural continuity and change, and the relationship between individuals and social groups. Students will also develop critical reading, clear communication, and reflective writing skills while learning how major theories intersect and evolve across different eras.
