Objectives

Fintech takes the original financial system and improves its technology, while Techfin is to rebuild the system with technology. In this course, we shall study Fintech using tools from mathematics, statistics, and finance. Neither detailed IT issues nor philosophical issues will be discussed. The topics to be covered include: (1) Basic concepts of blockchain and smart contracts. (2) Introduction to Solidity, the most popular programming for writing smart contracts on blockchain. (3) Cryptocurrencies and stable coins. (4) Initial coin offering (ICO). (5) Contract designs for ICO. (6) Dynamic mean variance analysis and robo-advising. (7) Privacy issues. The students are required to know calculus, linear algebra, basic probability and statistics, and basic finance concepts such as investment and derivatives pricing.  Fintech is an emerging area under finance. With the rapid development of technology, the utilisation of technology to enhance processes within the financial sector has become a key developmental goal for companies and banks. As such, professionals within the financial sector would be able to utilise the skills and knowledge picked up from this course to assist in the digital transformation of their companies, thereby allowing this group of learners to be at the forefront of the technological advancement in the financial sector.
